Using the Push Button & Foot Pedal with the TableMike 6-in-1 and 9-in-1
Although there are a variety of ways to control the microphone when using Dragon NaturallySpeaking, including issuing voice commands or programming a keyboard "hot key" in either a toggle on/off or push-to-talk method, for owners of the SpeechWare 6-in-1 and 9-in-1 TableMike, there are two additional methods. These include:
- Use of the central "push" button on center of the TableMike base
- Use of the optional foot pedal
Both the push button and foot pedal act identically and when both are available, either can be used. Neither of these actually controls Dragon, but rather act as a means of cutting off the signal from the microphone to Dragon. The behavior of both the push button and foot pedal are determined by selecting one of 3 settings on the sliding switch on the bottom of the base of the 6-in-1 or 9-in-1.
The switch has 3 positions and controls the microphone as follows:
Switch Position |
Behavior of Push Button Depression and release |
Consequence of Foot Pedal Depression & Release |
Always on |
No effect; microphone always on |
No effect; microphone always on |
Push to lock |
Microphone turns on with one push and release of button and turns off with another push and release |
Microphone turns on with one depression and release of foot pedal and turns off with another push and release |
Push to talk |
Microphone on only when push button depressed; turns off when button release |
Microphone on only when foot pedal depressed; turns off when pedal released. |
A consequence of the above, is that a TableMike user must be attentive to the position of the slider switch under the base of the microphone.
For both the push button and foot pedal, if the "always on" setting is selected, neither mechanism will affect microphone functioning (it will always be on). This will give the impression that neither is working but is, rather, the expected behavior for this setting. You should select the behavior that best meets your needs.
