 This is the "third generation" TableMike from SpeechWare and the result of several years of the best Belgian engineering and input from a number experienced speech recognition users/resellers including Chuck Runquist, Larry Allen, Lunis Orcutt and Speech Recognition Solutions. Comments: Key changes from the first generation include 1) a more sensitive microphone element and 2) changes in the circuit board that includes "declicking" algorithms to heighten further the immunity from external noise. We have extensively tested the second-generation electronics and found it to be truly amazing. Unlike any other product we know, it allows practical dictation from a distance up to 20 inches. In terms of accuracy and external noise rejection, this product will perform exactly like the 6-in-1. Please view the "product demo" link with the 6-in1 to get an idea of how the 3-in-1 works. This "third generation" table mike differs from the second generation unit only in have somewhat larger, more easily pushed buttons on the base. An added bonus is that the Up/Down volume buttons can be reconfigured using the TableMike Configuration Utility to emulate up to six different keystrokes/hotkeys or Dragon commands.

 SpeechWare 6-in-1 TableMike
This is the intermediate of the three TableMikes and included a longer more flexible boom and an on-board speaker. This microphone has all the features of the 3-in-1 (see description above) plus:
- a longer boom (21 inches) with two point of articulation
- integrated speaker with volume controls
- a jack for integration with an optional foot pedal
- an accessory USB jack
If you need a speaker but don't need the extra USB port or card reader which come with the 9-in-1, this is the perfect table-mounted microphone for you.
How does this compare with other table-mounted microphones on the market? We sell these other products and, honestly, the TableMikes are in a league of their own. But at a cost. We strongly believe, though, that you are getting what you pay for with this microphone. The construction is of the highest quality. The microphone element is highly sensitive yet tempered as needed by the auto-gain technology, and the digital signal processing assists hugely in negating external (and internal noise).

Comments: This unit takes advantage of the same circuit board as the "second generation" 3-in-1 model and in extensive testing appears to be an extraordinary product which combines a long boom (21 inches), a long reach (dictation up to 20 inches from the microphone element), a very high level of accuracy, and an amazing degree of external noise rejection. We have posted some preliminary results with the microphone (see link above). Like the 3-in-1, this product can work in 3 "modes", including the speechrec mode, normal mode, and accessory mic mode. Be aware that the equilizer circuitry (auto gain) which allows use of the microphone from distances of 10-20 inches is in place only when in the speechrec mode.

Comments: We have been testing and selling the 9-in-1 for many months now and find it to be every bit the microphone we expected. In terms of functioning, it works identically to the 3-in-1 and 6-in-1 as far as accuracy and external noise rejection. The big advantages are the extra USB port for the optional high-definition (HD) Webcam or any other USB peripheral, a universal and very practical Flash memory reader for quick transfer (and transcription) of your recordings, and the telescoping boom which allows placement of the base a fair distance away.

Speech Recognition Solutions Foot Pedal for the 6-in-1 and 9-in-1
 This is a low-cost alternative to the SpeechWare-approved foot pedal that is included with the accessory kit (above). This pedal comes with a 6 ft. cord, interfaces with the pedal jack on the 6-in-1 and 9-in-1 TableMike and based on the position of the switch on the bottom of your microphone base can be used in either a "Push-to-talk" method (microphone live only when depressing the pedal) or "push to lock" mode (cycle between microphone on and microphone off with each pedal depression.

Comments: Like the pedal sold by SpeechWare, we find this works perfectly when used in the "Push-to-Talk" mode, but it is occasionally ignored when depressed while using it in the "push-to-lock" mode. This latter behavior is likely to happen only when cycling the mic off and on in rapid succession in the Push-to-Lock mode and does not occur when the cycling interval is more than a few seconds. We assume this is a quirk of the TableMike and not the pedal since it occurs with every pedal we have tested. We bring this alternative to you mainly to provide a cost effective and functionally identical alternative. If you need extra cord length from the pedal to your computer, we recommend you purchase our 72 inch audio extension cable.

Replacement Foam Windscreen for the TableMike (3-pack)
 Although we don't personally use a windscreen with the TableMike since we use it indoors and in the "long-range" mode (long distance between mouth and microphone element), you may be using your microphone in a way in which protecting the element may be helpful. The main reasons for using a foam windscreen are these:
- Prevent "popping" noise from your breath when used at close range
- Avoid wind-related noise if using outside
- Protection from moisture damage or disease transmission if used at very close range
Although the picture is red and we have assorted colors, the windscreens you receive will most likely be blue.

Comments: We haven't seen a product as innovative and exciting as this one in several years. In fact, only the basic TableMikes (3-in-1, 6-in-1 and 9-in-1) match this product in functionality. We have been working with prototypes of this device for more than 6 months and absolutely love using it with our laptop. For physicians that dictate in and out of an exam room, this product can easily fold down when on the move from room to room and when moving to the car, home or satellite office. It is so small that it can fit in your pocket or a small space within your computer case or portfolio. We find the overall quality, both in terms of build and functionality a solid 10 out of 10. The downsides? It's expensive. Also, although it does a superb job in canceling external noise, we wouldn't recommend using it in a room with loud competing noise. Mild to moderate noise it will handle fine.

Comments: The net effect of this product is to significantly improve the performance of your current headset microphone. We have tested it extensively with the Sennheiser ME3 and Audio Technica 8HEmW and have a hard time believing what a difference this makes in terms of external noise rejection and accuracy in our two best headsets. How does this compare to other external USB adapters we sell? Honestly, it leaves them in the dust. It's that much of an advancement. Without a doubt, though, it is expensive. So if you are happy with the results of your current headset and USB adapter, there is no reason to consider this. If you have reason to seek even higher levels of accuracy, consider substituting the SpeechMatic MultiAdapter for your current USB adapter.

Comments: We love the flexibility allowed by the use of this simple yet ruggedly constructed base for the TravelMike. Using this base allows you to have full flexibility in where you situate the TravelMike and provides the added functionality of 3 accessory USB ports and the 4 card reading ports listed above. If we had any wish it is that a) the device was a bit heavier (weighted) and b) that two of the USB ports were on the back and not front of the device. We hope some of these features will be incorporated into the final design. We very much like that the base is small enough to keep the entire set-up (including separately purchased TravelMike) quite portable. When compared with the full sized TableMikes, the combination of the TravelMike and base provide nearly identical results. The difference is that by virtue of the longer boom the full sized TableMike can be placed much farther away from the user. The TravelMike/Base combo clearly offers better portability.

SpeechWare 6-in-1 WIRELESS TableMike
Note: While this microphone has been designed and tested, it has not yet gone to production given concern about sufficient demand to justify production costs. At this point (June 2013) we know of no definitive launch date for this product.
For the user on the move, or for the user based in a wheel-chair or other mobile device and needing a mobile version of the 6-in-1 TableMike, this is the perfect solution. It combines all the features of the basic 6-in-1 microphone with a wireless connection. We have extensively tested this product and compared it with the standard version and find its performance to be identical.

Comments: We don't expect this product to be a massive seller since most users preferring a desktop microphone will not mind a wired connection and will chose the less expensive standard 6-in-1 TableMike. If you are bed or wheelchair bound and need to be freed of additional cables, this is a perfect solution. Likewise if you are on the move and need the quality of this product but cannot be wired, you should consider using the wireless 6-in-1 along with the optional belt clip. In terms of performance, our testing of prototypes has shown it to be superb.
One more consideration: Although a fairly costly proposition, you can use the base of the wireless 6-in-1 to turn any headset microphone into a wireless microphone and with all the advantages of the superb noise rejection algorithms of the TableMike circuitry. Simply plug your headset microphone into the accessory microphone jack, attach the base to your belt with the optional belt click, and you are ready to go.
